Secretary
Pat King
Patrick King started his working life as an apprentice turner/fitter with a commercial glass manufacturer in Harlow, moving on to train as a toolmaker and then a draftsman with that same firm.
He married Jennifer after moving to Colchester as a fan design draftsman. While later working as a Cost Engineer there, a vavancy for a Technical Officer with the MPBW presented itself and proved to be the start of a long career with the Civil Service.
During those early years, Pat studied for, and gained, a Higher National Certificate in Engineering.
His work took him to many of the RAF and Army bases in East Anglia and as far afield as the Shetland Islands, becoming a member of teams responsible for the maintenance of mechanical and electrical services at those sites.
He found that his times as a draftsman, together with experience gained in the Civil Service, led naturally to a later career as a designer of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical services.
Pat then branched out into energy management.
Pat, along with many others, was transferred to Mowlem Facilities Management when their Civil Service department was privatised.
After many years with Mowlem, he was head hunted by a consultancy named Scott Wilson plc and rose to the dizzy heights of Senior Building Services Engineer. He continued in that capacity until his retirement in 2008.
Pat has always had a deep interest in all things mechanical and still fiddles with his motorcycles deep into his retirement.
His other interests include gardening and art. His art includes watercolour and acrylic painting, as well as the use of mixed media.
He joined the Newmarket Probus Club in February 2015 and has served on the committee, mainly as Secretary, for many of those years.
