“Lighting the Fuse” is the title of a book writen by Lucy.

In this extraordinary memoir, Lucy reveals the hidden world of bomb disposal training and how she came to be the UK's first female bomb disposal expert.

From joining Sandhurst to rushing to her first bomb disposal call-out, Lucy's story is full of high stakes and tense situations that for most of us, are beyond comprehension.

Lucy's story however is also a deeply inspirational one - joining the military in the 1980s just as women were taking on more dangerous roles, Lucy's every move was watched and scrutinised. This didn't hold her back however, and this is how she broke through the ceiling, fought against sexism and achieved something no woman had ever done before.

Lucy subsequently served with the Royal Military Police in Germany and Northern Ireland, retiring in the rank of Major to start a family. In 2018, Lucy made history for a second time by becoming the first woman to be appointed University Marshal at the University of Cambridge and now leads one of the oldest Constabularies in the world.

There are currently 26 University Constables, who are also known as ‘bulldogs’, and they assist at all ceremonies as well as supporting the Proctors in defending freedom of speech across the University.

Lucy is also the Deputy Ceremonial Officer in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and the University's Armed Forces Champion.
